Under den här kvällen har jag försökt att göra litet "research" inför ett längre bloginlägg. ("Ett längre bloginlägg" innebär i Relevans-sammanhang ett inlägg som inte bara består av ett citat.) Planen är att dels presentera en kort undersökning som rör titlarnas roll hos instrumental musik, dels lägga fram bevis som stödjer tesen att Explosions in the Sky är det band som är absolut bäst på att presentera en titel och ett stycke musik som inte bara är kongruenta, utan dessutom bildar en "synergistisk helhet".

(Jag älskar Explosions in the Sky och deras musik är något av det viktigaste som finns.)

Min research har gått ut på att läsa ett par akademiska kapitel i diverse böcker. Det har gått bra, tror jag. Jag har hittat några citat som jag kanske skulle kunna bygga en liten undersökning på. Men jag vet inte, det hela känns så meningslöst. Vad skulle poängen vara?

Den andra halvan av min research har gått ut på att läsa Explosions in the Sky-intervjuer. Även detta har gått bra; här finns gott om material att bygga en text om titlar, musik och "musikalisk mening" kring.

Bandet är inte den sortens musiker som ser sin musik som en avknoppning från ett stort teoribygge, men som jag ser det hindrar det inte dem från att säga saker som är bra, fina, kloka, och till och med livsviktiga.

Do you think that your music carries a message or is it purely "emotional"?

There isn't really a transcendental message in our music. Emotions are very important to us. We want people to live our music, to make them feel something. We would like them to feel all sorts of emotions: angst, relaxation, fright, joy, concern... Apart from that, we do not really carry any political message. The main idea would be: "Be a good person".

Explosions in the Sky och jag fungerar så bra ihop, främst för att vi tycks bära samma sorts naiva hoppfullhet i våra hjärtan. De säger saker som Whoever you come across, whomever you meet, just try and be a nice person and be a good person. For us that's how we try to live our lives and we appreciate some of the nice things and the good things that have happened to us. Try and keep those in the forefront and, you know, I just think that has an affect on how we view the world, I suppose (källa) och jag känner att det skulle kunna vara jag som sade det där.

LAS: How do you believe the future for people might end up, do you believe in what you might call 'happy endings' or rather that there is never any satisfaction in life?

Chris: I guess we sort of believe in happy endings, and always hope for happy endings. I guess in life there is never a fully happy ending, because a human being's life is so complicated and so full of pain and everything. I guess all we can really look at is our own lives and I would say that I hope there's happy endings.

Jag vet inte vad poängen är med det här inlägget. Möjligen är det ett utdraget försök att säga att Explosions in the Sky, utöver att skapa musik som tillhör det vackraste jag vet, i alla lägen är en pålitlig leverantör av hopp. Och på något sätt känns det som något viktigare att förmedla än en halvhjärtad analys av relationen mellan ett styckes musikaliska innehåll och dess titel.
